NYLAG Supports Court Simplification For All

The current New York court structure perpetuates inequality in our justice system, especially for litigants with low-income. We have seen firsthand how the current court system in New York creates obstacles towards litigants achieving timely and just resolution to their matrimonial and family law cases. We support court simplification for these reasons, and also urge the Committee to review and reform the process of appointing and electing justices to these courts.

NYLAG Obtains FOIA Response About SSA’s Proposed Payroll Information Exchange with Equifax

After NYLAG filed a FOIA lawsuit, SSA produced the contract it had entered into with Equifax, pricing tables, an addendum which outlined the specific standards for the Equifax payroll information exchange, and relevant data privacy and security guidelines for the development of such a system. On February 15, 2024, SSA issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that sets forth a proposed rule for the use of this data matching process.

USA TODAY: Biden administration extends student loan relief talks after mounting pressure

The US DOE has added a fourth negotiation session on student loan relief for borrowers with financial hardship, in part thanks to a letter from NYLAG Supervising Attorney Jessica Ranucci and her fellow members of the Department’s loan relief negotiating committee.
