Foreclosure prevention has long been a crucial practice area at NYLAG, particularly since 2008 when the full force of the foreclosure crisis hit and the housing bubble burst. Years later, the need for foreclosure prevention legal services continues to grow and the practice has expanded to serve all five boroughs as well as Nassau and Suffolk Counties, providing advice and counsel, on site pro se clinics, as well as direct court representation. Homeowner problems remain severe, especially in certain neighborhoods in New York City, and in particular on Long Island. The FPP has expanded its practice beyond traditional foreclosure prevention representation to address both conventional and emerging needs in these communities.

NYLAG maintains a dedicated Foreclosure Prevention hotline and has a presence in 111 community offices located in courts, hospitals, and social service organizations. NYLAG attorneys also provide community education and outreach and travel aboard NYLAG’s Mobile Legal Help Center to reach homeowners who have difficulty leaving their neighborhoods to seek assistance.
