The New York Legal Assistance Group’s Financial Counselors offer free, confidential services to Jobs-Plus members who encounter short-term financial crises and/or require assistance with long-term financial planning. Our experienced financial professionals work directly with members who are struggling to budget for and meet their basic expenses by helping them access affordable banking solutions, increase or build credit scores, decrease debt, increase savings, and manage income to maintain affordable housing. We currently offer financial counseling services at two NYC Jobs-Plus sites, the Hostos Community College Jefferson Housing site in Harlem, and the Goodwill Industries site in the Bronx.
NYLAG is an Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) Network agency, and all of our financial counselors are OFE-certified.
Jobs-Plus is a comprehensive, neighborhood-based workforce development program for public housing residents. Jobs-Plus offers job training and placement services in conjunction with financial counseling to help residents build their skills and connect to the labor market so they can increase their incomes. The program seeks to help residents continue to improve their earnings over time and take the necessary steps towards self-improvement.
Jobs-Plus is supported by the Human Resources Administration in partnership with the NYC Center for Economic Opportunity, the Department of Consumer Affairs Office of Financial Empowerment, and the New York City Housing Authority.
