NYLAG’s Employment Law Unit provides advice, consultations, and legal representation to low-wage workers on issues related to employment. Working alone and in partnership with the private bar, the Employment Law Unit at NYLAG has won back wages and employment reinstatement, as well as revised employer policies and practices. Cases typically involve:

Employment discrimination claims, based on:

  • Race, gender, age, disability, FMLA, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, pregnancy, and other statuses
  • Retaliation for exercising your rights

Wage and hour issues, such as:

  • Failure to pay minimum wage
  • Failure to pay overtime
  • Failure to provide breaks
  • Unpaid wages

Unemployment Insurance

  • Counsel and advice


Employment Law Unit staff members visit community groups to provide free know-your-rights trainings on employment law.
