NYLAG has joined with other immigrant advocates in strongly supporting the establishment of a $3 million NYC Citizenship Fund that will help as many as 16,000 immigrants become naturalized. It is a commonsense step to removing the financial barriers for the 670,000 immigrants in New York City who are eligible to naturalize but have not done so. Given the anti-immigrant actions and rhetoric under the Trump administration, immigrants are at greater risk of deportation than ever before. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that our City’s immigrants have the economic assistance they need to take the next step and become US citizens.
