Ending Poverty Requires Access to Justice.

We believe that ending poverty, while an ambitious goal, is possible. It will require necessary legal services, systemic change, combatting racism, and working hand-in-hand with individuals and communities experiencing poverty. We’re ready. Are you? NYLAG will take on this 4-prong multi-faceted approach.

NYLAG will continue to provide free legal services and financial counseling for individuals and families experiencing poverty to help our clients address the crises that impact their economic stability, safety, and well-being.

NYLAG will strengthen our efforts to challenge policy, laws, and systemic barriers that affect our clients so we can more fairly help those experiencing poverty. Poverty is not an issue of individual behavior or bad choices but rather a systemic issue shaped by laws, institutional policies, cultural representations, racism, and economic factors.

NYLAG will prioritize race equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI) because we cannot competently address the legal and financial crises of our clients without challenging structural racism and its impact in our daily work.

NYLAG’s work will continued to be guided by current and emerging needs as shared with us by our clients who are the experts on their lives.
