NYLAG established the Immigrant Victims of Domestic Violence Project in July of 2007 to provide comprehensive services to battered women residing in New York City.
Many immigrants subject to mental and physical abuse at the hands of their partners are afraid to come forward because of their unlawful status. They are often trapped in abusive relationships because of their abusers’ threats of deportation. NYLAG attorneys help women escape domestic violence by filing for immigration relief without the abuser’s assistance or knowledge. The VAWA/U-Visa Project helps victims find safety and independence.
