Caprice Jenerson Named Pro Bono Director
Caprice R. Jenerson has joined NYLAG as Director of the Pro Bono and Volunteer Unit, responsible for coordinating the agency’s extensive pro bono program. Over 60 law firm partners currently participate, and last year more than 1,200 volunteers from law firms, corporate legal departments and law schools contributed over 103,000 hours of service.
Jenerson was most recently Senior Resource Counsel with Clemency Project 2014, where she was responsible for the recruitment and training of nearly 4,000 lawyers to provide pro bono assistance to federal inmates seeking to have their sentences commuted or reduced by the President of the United States.
“We are thrilled to welcome Caprice to NYLAG. She has a rich background as a practicing attorney and hands-on experience in building a formidable pro bono program. I look forward to working with her and our pro bono staff to enhance our already strong partnerships with the private bar, enabling NYLAG to significantly extend our capabilities and impact,” said Beth Goldman, NYLAG’s President and Attorney-in-Charge.
Jenerson is a veteran attorney with 20 years’ experience in all phases of criminal and civil litigation, appellate advocacy, motions practice and discovery. She has worked as a legal consultant to a variety of law firms and solo practitioners and as an associate and principal at several private firms. She received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and her J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law.
NYLAG offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities in all of its substantive practice areas ranging from small matters, that require only a few hours to complete, to complex litigation. NYLAG attorneys serve as an ongoing resource for pro bono volunteers and are available to discuss case strategy, review draft pleadings, and provide other support and guidance. One-day legal clinics are offered on topics of interest to pro bono attorneys, as well as practice guides, model documents and other educational materials.
